AHCCCS stands for Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System. AHCCCS Medicaid Program is Available for Low Income Individuals & Family's.
It’s Arizona’s Medicaid agency that offers services to Arizona residents who meet certain requirements.
While the plan is widely used for adults and children who meet certain income requirements, and those with disabilities, it’s also available to adults over the age of 65. Those who qualify pay no monthly premium.

An AHCCCS plan works like an HMO plan with a network of doctors contracted to provide services. A Primary Care Physician would need to give a referral to see a specialist. AHCCCS plans cover most basic medical needs including doctor’s visits and hospital services, labs and x-rays, immunizations, emergency care, and specialists.
Some individuals may qualify for Arizona’s Long Term Care Services program, ALTCS, which covers nursing facilities, in-home care and assisted living services.
